Are Culture Related Comedy Bits Funny or Just Plain Racist?

Food for thought.........

I'm hosting our shows weekly and some of the funniest comedians are the one's who play the race card. At The Z Room, we've noticed through the months, has become very young and very jewish friendly, which I don't mind because some of the cutest young comedians I have seen have celebrated passover with pleasure.

But some night's I've noticed that the comedians that get the most laughs are Indian and Pakistani natives totally taking stabs fun of their families and culture.  Believe me it's hilarious and very well delivered and as far as I'm concerned nothing dispels the myth of a stereotype better than a good clean dig about yourself or your culture.

But is it necessary? Am I expected to make fat jokes using ghetto slag because I am African American? Does Ben Rosenfeld's bit with his mother's strong Russian accent work because he's expected to do it.

Tell us what you think. Where do we draw the line between what is funny and what is just plain biggotted?
